The community of Smyrna is served by the
Citizens' Hose Company No. 1 Inc., an all volunteer organization. The company provides service, within the Smyrna fire district, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Equipment is dispatched through the central Kent County Enhanced
9-1-1 Communications Center in Dover.
The company responds to over 400 alarms and accidents every year. They are capable of handling most fire and rescue needs and their equipment includes:
- Three Class A pumpers
- 100' aerial ladder
- Heavy duty rescue truck
- Four-wheel drive brush unit
- 6,000 gallon water tanker
- Small boat
- Three utility vehicles
